Stallone bashes Hollywood in the book " Stiffed "

In the feminist book Stiffed: The Betrayal of the Modern Man Sylvester Stallone is quoted, "I see everyone else working and I'm not doing dick. I'm in total limbo. I'm a man without a country," the 53-year-old actor says in Stiffed: The Betrayal of the Modern Man (William & Morrow Co.). Quotes from the under-wraps book, due out in October, appeared in the New York Daily News.

The Stallone passage appears in a chapter titled, "Parting Shots." To be sure, the actor comes out swinging, calling Miramax Films honcho Harvey Weinstein "The Don King of cinema," invoking the reviled/revered fight promoter. Sly apparently feels Miramax reneged on a pledge to cast him in more character-driven, ensemble movies, instead pressing him to make (ugh) another Rambo flick. (Miramax could not be reached for comment today.)

In 1997, Stallone did make Cop Land for Miramax. A departure from his usual action fare, the buff movie star let his gut hang out to play a beleaguered small-town sheriff in a drama about corrupt cops. The film grossed an overall $44.9 million at the box office, but fell fast after a No. 1 weekend opening. Stallone-related Oscar buzz fell with the film's ticket sales. His lone subsequent feature was a voiceover role in last year's animated hit Antz.

"After I made Cop Land, all of Hollywood turned their back"; Stallone says in Stiffed, over a lunch with author Susan Faludi at Hollywood power restaurant Spago."I'm surprised they even gave me this table. I'm like driftwood in here." There was no comment from the Stallone camp on the book's quotes. But it's worth noting that the Stiffed interviews did take place two years ago.
